Synopsis. An espionage ring attempts to steal the formula for the “ruby laser,” a system that Telecom Research Company has been developing on behalf of the United States. While the laser can be used to create 3-D imagery on television sets, its primary purpose is to build defense weapons. Erskine must determine the extent of the penetration and whether the crime is industrial in nature or a matter of national security.
