1. THE FOUR POUND BRICK
    Original Air Date:
    February 21, 1975

    Synopsis.
Rocky’s friend Kate Banning always knew that her son David, a rookie police officer, took better care of his car than he did himself. She therefore becomes suspicious when Dave is killed in a matter the L.A.P.D. has officially classified as a traffic accident. Jim agrees to look into the matter, but soon uncovers evidence that could implicate Dave in a crooked narcotics operation.

This episode originated from Leigh Brackett, the distinguished writer of science fiction and fantasy who was also active in the field of detective fiction. A novelist in the Chandler tradition, Brackett wrote the screenplay for The Big Sleep, the 1945 film classic (based on the 1939 Chandler novel that introduced Philip Marlowe) that is widely considered to be one of the finest movies of its kind ever made. A mentor of Ray Bradbury, Brackett also published many novels and short stories in the sci-fi genre.
